I love to eat. Food is the answer to most of my questions. A way too many years back, I developped a food allergy that envies most food allergies. At first it started off with mostly gluten.. wheat, corn, soy, and peanuts. When your eating habits have to change cold turkey.. it’s an emotional roller coaster. I realized that so many of the foods we all enjoy are filled with incredibly heartbreaking ingredients.
Since that experience about 15 years ago.. I’ve come to realize the top 10 foods I miss so much! I’m ready to share them with you. Please keep in mind these are all delicious bites that I cannot have anymore due to my gluten and food allergy. If you can eat these things.. the next time you do.. savor every bite!
PIZZZAAAAAAAAAA by far is the number one meal I miss. I’m allergic to the tomatoes, and the flour. However I do have a few good gluten free pizza spots that I love. When I was trying out gluten free pizzas one of my first journeys was Pizza Hut…. Never again. It tasted like cardboard. You’ll thank me later.

Pasteis de Nata! I honestly would have about 3 Benadryls to eat 2 of these bad boys. This is one of my favorite desserts. My grandmother loved pasteis de natas so much. She had a specific bakery that we would go to get them. I’ve tried to make these myself with gluten free pastry dough and it’s just not the same!!

Coming in at number 3 is caramel apples!! Just picture it. You’re walking on the boardwalk, with your precut caramel apples, and the smell of waves crashing enhances the overall taste of the apple. I miss that! There’s no replacement for apples. I could have a caramel apple any day or season. Caramel apples were definitely a comfort food for me.

I think France will have gluten free croissants.. there are quite a few bakeries in my area that have gluten free croissants, but they all tastes as if something is missing.. gluten. (Laugh here) Croissants were my go to breakfast food. I could never go wrong with a buttery croissant and a good cup of coffee. I didn’t mention that I was allergic to coffee as well. (Insert gasp here)

Rounding out the top five is Calamari!! Talk about finger licking good! Calamari was my go to order at restaurants, my to go order, my if it wasn’t good I’m sending it back order. Calamari was everything. Until it wasn’t. I have found a few gluten free restaurants that serve calamari however the flour is corn based. (Insert tears here)
These are my top 5 most missed foods! Pizza, pasteis de nata, caramel apples, croissants, and calamari. I am always on the look out for a great gluten free spot that I can pin. Let me know if you have any!
